About the Event

Join Dr. Robin Lynn Treptow and a small group of peers for a monthly Reflective Practice session.

Reflective Practice is at the heart of working with and caring for infants, young children and their families. Reflection helps teachers think about their caregiving practices and develop greater self-awareness in order to incorporate new understandings and advance children's learning and development.

Teachers who participate in Reflective Practice are more likely to demonstrate the following characteristics:

  • Examines their own reactions to children or their actions to understand their source.
  • Curious about children’s play and watches it closely.
  • Documents details of children’s conversations and activities.
  • Takes time to study notes and photos to puzzle out what is significant.
  • Eagerly shares stories about children’s learning with families and co-workers.
  • Asks co-workers and children’s families about their insights.
  • Reads professional literature to learn more.
  • Shares photos and stories of themselves to receive feedback.
  • Changes the environment and materials to encourage new play and learning possibilities.

The series will last six months, with a cohort no larger than 7 individuals meeting monthly for 90 minutes. Attendees who attend at least 5 of the 6 sessions will receive 8 hours of professional development from ECP.
